Arizona spent the offseason selling off some pieces and have gone through this season so far not missing a beat. Although their division lead has shrunk, they’re still in first and squarely a team to beat. The pitching staff, like usual, has worked its voodoo magic and is one of the best in the league, despite moving on from guys like Myers and Sebra. Offense on the other hand…
Need: Center Fielder
The revolving door that has been center field is now focused on Chad Curtis, who has struggled in a full time role since coming over from Florida. He took over from Jeff Kunkel, who showed little in his extended try.
Possible Targets
Keith Miller – Los Angeles Dodgers: While not a world beater, he’s got a WAR above 0 and that’s an improvement. Given the contract year and age, probably also easy to acquire.
Shane Mack – Toronto Blue Jays: Not really suited for CF anymore, he could theoretically play there still and hope the bat comes alive in a less toxic clubhouse. With DeShields and Alou to pay this offseason, the Mack contract may not be worth the squeeze.
Jim Edmonds – San Diego Padres: With Darryl Hamilton on the roster and able to take over in CF, San Diego could try and flip Edmonds to fill additional holes on the roster (middle infield is looking tough – Baerga and Vizcaino could fill some holes)
