Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving.

If there’s one thing this league teaches us year after year, it’s that gratitude and grit often arrive in the same package. Thanksgiving gives us the perfect excuse to sit back, loosen the belt a notch, and appreciate the moments that make this league worth the endless scouting reports, late-night trade negotiations, and spirited debates that somehow always end with someone insisting they “won the deal by a mile.”

This week, before the spreadsheets reopen and the draft board begins its annual ascent from “interesting concept” to “full-on obsession,” I hope each of you gets a moment to enjoy some peace, a warm meal, and maybe a well-earned break from pretending you haven’t been studying prospects since whenever.

But let’s be honest—Thanksgiving in the DBL is never entirely free of strategy. Somewhere between the stuffing and the second slice of pie, every owner will inevitably slip into reflection:

“Did I miss the breakout candidate everyone else secretly loves?”
“Is this the year my luck changes?”
“How many picks can I trade before it becomes concerning?”

And, of course, the eternal question:
“Why does my rival’s roster always look suspiciously good right before the draft?”

Consider this your annual reminder that hope is undefeated in the weeks leading up to draft day. No selection has been botched, no sleeper has been overhyped, no future star overlooked—not yet. Right now, your board is perfect. Your plan is brilliant. Your roster is one stroke of genius away from rewriting DBL history.

So enjoy the calm before we all dive headfirst into the most unpredictable part of the season. May your Thanksgiving be full of family, laughter, and exactly zero discussions about whether your draft picks are “safe” or “reckless.”
And when the big day arrives, may your instincts be sharp, your rivals be confused, and your steals be plentiful.

From my corner of the DBL universe to yours—
Happy Thanksgiving, and best of luck in the upcoming draft.

May fortune favor the bold… or at the very least, the prepared.
