This writer is curious to see whether the Rangers see themselves as a buyer or a seller (or both), but at .500 with good veteran pitchers and Carlos Delgado and Chipper Jones leading the offense, it would be unwise to rule them out.
Need: Designated Hitter
John Kruk is a fun player. John Kruk has had a good career. John Kruk should no longer be playing regularly. Kruk is worth -1.2 WAR this season, making him one of the worst regulars in the league. While the lineup has some other holes, the DH void is glaring.
Possible Targets
Henry L Rodriguez – Boston Red Sox: Hasn’t been good this year, but has raw power for days and can’t do any worse than Kruk is.
Junior Felix – Detroit Tigers: Nothing special, but producing this year. 20 home runs and an OPS of .824, would probably be priced right for a team who isn’t sure of its chances.
Glenn Davis – Colorado Rockies: I’m sure Colorado ownership would love to move the contract and open up some cap, but Davis is having a great year. 155 OPS+ and an OPS over .900, he’d provide ridiculous lineup protection for Delgado and Jones.
