Day 6 Free Agency Recap: Market Thins as Teams Push to Fill Rosters

Another day in the books, and free agency continues to take shape. Day 5 saw 32 more players signed, bringing the total number of players with active bids down to 61. With roster deadlines approaching, teams are working to finalize their signings and fill out their depth charts.

Bidding Wars Continue

Akira Eto remains the most sought-after free agent, with a total of 19 bids. His latest offer is a six-year deal at $230,000 per year, though the bid is currently tied. Meanwhile, Masaki Saito is also drawing heavy interest, now with 14 bids, including a six-year offer at $240,000 per year. The battle for these two Japanese imports is far from over, and it will be interesting to see which teams land them.

Signing of the Day: Benji Gil Finds a Home

After days of speculation, Benji Gil has officially signed with the Oakland Athletics. Their owner had a humorous reaction, responding with a Jim Carrey gif from the upcoming 1997 film Liar Liar, exclaiming, “It was meee!” For those keeping track, the movie won’t actually be released for another two years. If you’re looking for another Jim Carrey film to enjoy when the time comes, The Truman Show (1998) is another must-watch. But for now, it’s still 1995—so hold tight, movie fans!

Roster Status: Work Still to Be Done

While some teams are nearing completion, there is still a significant amount of work to do to bring rosters into compliance:

  • 3 teams have already reached the 50-player minimum.
  • 12 teams have at least 40 players on their roster.
  • 4 teams have 35 or more players, but still need additional signings.
  • Several teams still need 20+ players to meet the roster minimum.

With free agency winding down, the pressure is on for clubs to make final roster decisions. Expect a flurry of signings in the coming days as teams work to finalize their lineups and ensure they meet league requirements.

Stay tuned for more updates as the market continues to shift.
